The theme of this Years Mental Health Week is ‘Let’s Connect’. Connection is vital for our wellbeing. Let’s Connect is about making meaningful connections and Miss Smith from the Healthy Minds Team came into school to today and delivered and assembly to encourage our children (and staff) to connect with others in healthy, rewarding, and meaningful ways.
To celebrate Mental Health Week in school and to raise awareness of the importance of children’s mental health we have completed lots of different activities in class through out the week.
Last week the School Council and Eco Warriors worked together on a bird feeder project. We had a visit from Groundworks who talked to the children about visiting the tip, why you would go and what the children had dropped off. We then discussed how we deal with rubbish and recycling and the importance of 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
We learned the importance of keeping the earth happy and the damage of climate change. The teams made bird feeders from recyclable material and then we hung them around our gardens! The two groups worked so well together and were a credit to us all.
After reading ‘The Pebble in My Pocket’ we carried out some independent research to find out more information about volcanoes, some of the most powerful forces shaping the Earth. This inspired us to Create our own volcanoes and watch them explode!
We used plastic bottles and paper mache to create the structures then we created a simple chemical reaction so our volcanos erupted with bubbly, fizzy liquid. The vinegar reacted with the bicarbonate of soda making carbon dioxide gas form and the bubbles pushed the “lava” out the “volcano” creating a realistic explosion!
Well done 7 Blue!
Well done to our Attendance Winners!
