This week in year 4 we have been learning about ‘electricity’. The children have created their own circuits, recognising the equipment needed to successfully light up a bulb. As well as this, the children have completed an investigation into which materials are conductors and insulators.
In Learning Means the World we have been looking at weight and measurement in our DT/Maths aspect of the curriculum, so we decided to make cookies like Little Red Riding hood did to take to her grandma. We looked at all the ingredients needed, followed a recipe and weighed and measured the correct amounts to make the cookies before mixing, kneading and cooking. We finally ate them and the general consensus was that they were delicious.
Today in 1 Blue, we have been looking at fairytales as a part of our Learning Means The World Theme. We read the story of Little Red Riding Hood and we decided to get our aprons ready in order to bake Grandma’s cookies like in the story. We had a go at weighing out the ingredients, mixing them together and then we cut out our own cookies. We can’t wait to taste them!
7 Blue had a great first week in school. Everyone was in school on time, looking smart and ready to learn.
The children enjoyed exploring their new class, making new friends and completed some fantastic work! We read the book POW by Neil Clark, the story promotes lots of resilience and the importance of having a growth mindset.
After reading the book the children designed their own superhero then went on to create a comic strip showing their superhero helping someone.
We ended the week discussing the power of positivity and exploring a range of strategies we can use this year to help us manage any ‘big feelings’ we experience.
I am really looking forward to the year ahead and can’t wait to see what the children achieve this year when they put their positive mindsets into practice!

4 Red have been learning some new vocabulary this week in guided reading. They played a game of connect 4 to see who could collect the greatest number of words. A fantastic start to the year!
This week in 4 Red we have been learning about the ‘tempo’ of music and how that can effect how music makes you feel. We explored this by creating some artwork inspired by music with different tempos The children have also composed some of their own pieces of music in the major key of C.
.
Today in 1 Red we had our first PE session, we focused on running and jumping and what it entails to run and jump safely and correctly. We practiced lots and showed our moves to our friends and in turn we ere able to say how we could improve to make our movements better. We learnt that exercise and fitness helps us to grow, be strong, get our heart beating and to be healthy.
