Nursery News

We have had a lovely time today making Gruffalo footprint biscuits. The children did a great job measuring, scooping and mixing. They rolled and flattened the dough and added claws too. I hope they all enjoyed eating their biscuits.

Nursery celebrate School Diversity Week!

We have enjoyed celebrating School Diversity Week this week in Nursery. The children loved using the colours of the pride flag to decorate their own bunting flags.

We also read the story ‘and tango makes three’ by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell. It’s a lovely story about a family of penguins at Central Park Zoo in New York City. Two male penguins, Roy and Silo, really want their own family – and with a little help from the zoo keeper, Mr Gramzay, their dreams come true and along comes Tango!

We talked about our own families and how they’re all different. The children also enjoyed drawing their families after reading the story.

Careers Day in Nursery!

As part of our whole school Careers Day, nursery had some special visitors yesterday. We had a visit from a children’s occupational therapist, Alison, who told us about how she helps children develop independence.

We were also visited by a local author, Lauren Taylor (nee Davis), who shared her books ‘The Scoliosaurus’ and ‘The Rainbow Snail’ We loved the stories and hearing about the inspiration behind them. Lauren left us with some lovely craft activities too – a personalised banner including some of her characters and some snails for us to design our own shells. We had great fun getting creative!

We enjoyed role play activities, playing games and listening to stories about different jobs too.

This week in Learning Means the World, we have been designing and making finger puppets to help our Nursery children learn the rhyme ‘Two Little Sparrows’.

We chose bright coloured felt, and our new sewing skills to stitch the sides together, before adding eyes wings and even some feathers!

When we’d finished we took our puppets to the Nursery and sang the rhyme to the children….but that wasn’t the end!

The Nursery children were so inspired by our work that they made their own puppets from paper and staples, and came all the way around to Year 2 to show us!
