Dear Parent / Carer
The Department for Education (DfE) has provided grant funding to South Tyneside Council, to
co-ordinate free holiday provision for children and young people aged 5-16 years entitled to freeschool meals. The HAF programme has key objectives for children including:
 To have access to free healthy food over the school holidays
 To be more active during the school holidays
 To take part in free fun, engaging and enriching activities supporting resilience and wellbeing
 To be safe and make new friends in a sociable environment.

During the main school holidays of Easter, Summer and Christmas thousands of places can be booked ‘free of charge’ for a vast range of sport, arts/crafts, dance, and drama activities, along with family events such as bowling at The Dunes, nature activities at the Brockley Allotments and performances at The Customs House. We also have organisations that provide specific sessions for
SEND children.
All information regarding the activities on offer and how to book can be found at:
www.southtyneside.gov.uk/holidayclub and bookings for our Spring programme will go live at

Reception World Book Day! We are out of this world!

3rd March 2023K Richardson

Reception had a fantastic World Book Day!

Everyone made so much effort and some amazing imagination went into some of the costumes. We decorated alien biscuits, made alien headbands, face masks and designed alien underpants!  We drew using a Youtube tutorial and also tried to dance like an alien. In our STEM session we looked at how our bodies create electricity and created rockets using effervescent vitamin tablets.  A truly fabulous day for us all.

Mental Health Week 2023

9th February 2023N Fada

The theme of this Years Mental Health Week is ‘Let’s Connect’. Connection is vital for our wellbeing.  Let’s Connect is about making meaningful connections and Miss Smith from the Healthy Minds Team came into school to today and delivered and assembly to encourage our children (and staff) to connect with others in healthy, rewarding, and meaningful ways.

To celebrate Mental Health Week in school and to raise awareness of the importance of children’s mental health we have completed lots of different activities in class through out the week.

Children’s Mental Health Week – Reception

9th February 2023K Richardson

This week in school we have been talking about children’s mental health.  We discussed how it is just as important to have a healthy mind as it is to have a healthy body. We also thought about who we should talk to if we are worried, scared, cross or upset and how it is okay to have these feelings but so important to talk to someone about it. We discussed ways to help us keep calm, relaxed and happy.  We used these strategies in class:

We gave each other compliments!

Here are some of our comments:

We are kind.
We give good cuddles.
We share with our friends.
We listen to our friends.
We make people laugh and smile.
We play with friends.
We look after everyone.

We drew using the Youtube tutorials, did some Cosmic Kids Yoga and read the story ‘The Dot’ discussing resilience and how we should not give up!

Reception PE: Fun & Games For Our Little Movers

9th February 2023C Campbell

Our Reception Classes are really enjoying our ‘Little Movers‘ sessions this term. Working with Pip our specialist leader, the children have been learning a range of physical development skills to boost their movement, balance and coordination across the curriculum. The children have loved the games and songs too – they have been really fun to be involved with and the smiles on our children’s faces is lovely to see. Well done everyone!
