This week in our Maths we have been matching numerals to its picture form then trying our best to write the number word. This has been very tricky, especially the writing of the word in its number form but we didn’t give up. We then used our great communication and language skills to explain to our partner what picture we were looking at. Our partner had to listen very carefully and draw what we had said, sound easy? Well we did it back to back so we really had to concentrate on our partners words and directions. It was geat fun!
In Art we created our own pictures of the Northern Lights by applying and developing our art skills. Look how beautiful they have turned out to be.
In 1 Blue we looked at Inukshuk stone figures. Which means ‘human being’. They were used by the Inuit in the North as directional markers. It is in the shape of a person and signifies safety, hope and friendship. We used stones, pebbles and then lego to build our own Inukshuk.
We took part in a design and technology lesson and used our theme of ‘Come Fly With Me- Arctic’ as inspiration. We decided to create an Arctic scene and then create a slider to show the sun rising and setting. We carefully snipped two slits in our card then inserted our sliding piece. We then created our scene and made our sun rise and set. We had lots of fun learning this new skill.
This week we have been learning about what the Inuit people eat and how their clothes are made. We looked at the materials they use in their every day life and created our own Inuit collage using the material that we thought was best suited for that weather.
Our Zero to Hero theme in Year 2 introduced us to the artist Christy Brown.
We learned about how Christy found it difficult to use and control movements in his arms and hands due to his cerebral palsy, therefore he had to find an alternative way to produce his art. We talked about how inspirational this was as he never gave up on his dreams to be an artist, showed resilience and like a true Pathfinder he ‘Found A Way’.
Like Christy Brown, we tried using our feet to create some art. This proved quite difficult and we started to gain an understanding of how Christy may have felt, as well as the determination he needed to become the brilliant artist he was.
In our theme ‘Come Fly With Me Asia’ we have travelled to India. We looked at some artefacts and placed a Bindi on our foreheads. We have been trying out some Bollywood dancing and found out about the ceremony of Rakhi. The children then made some Rakhi bracelets and we have started to make Indian flags 🇮🇳. We also investigated some of the spices used in traditional Indian foods. The children used their senses to look at, smell and taste them. We were so impressed that most children wanted to try them!
This week we have looked at the physical features of the Arctic and named them. We then created our own Arctic pictures using chalk. We included the features such as icebergs and mountains in our artwork.
This is week two of our visit to 🇨🇳 China! We enjoyed exploring noodles with chopsticks, making money wallets, creating Chinese flags, making dragon heads and then having a dragon dance around our school, Chinese writing and of course the food tasting! What a busy week!
