Today we took part in our ‘sponsored sports circuits’ in collaboration with ‘Sports for Schools’. The children were all extremely motivated and willing to have a go which made the whole event a huge success. Lucy and Chris who carried out the event commented on how amazing and committed the children were and that they were a credit to the whole school. The session was finished off with question and answer style assembly where the children found out all about Lucy’s path to becoming a Paralympian. The message from Lucy was ‘you can achieve your dreams if you just give 100% to all you do’. Well done Hebburn Lakes!
This half-term in PE, we are doing dance. The theme is based on space and we are exploring being astronauts and aliens. So far, we have created a sequence consisting of 3 movements and performed it in unison and then in canon.
The children in Reception are having so much fun exploring dance through their Little Movers PE sessions, here is a clip of their wonderful dance performance.
As part of our LMTW theme ‘Food Glorious Food’ we have been looking at ‘sweet foods’ We have used the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ throughout the week including Drawing Club. The children have been building the bears house using 3D shapes which was part of our maths this week. We talked about which shapes would be the best for building and why. They recreated the story, wrote captions, read instructions of how to make porridge and used their maths skills of full and empty to recreate the porridge scene, also using size to make sure the bears were in the corrects chairs! We tasted honey and talked about how it is a healthy sweet option and why. We then ate a variety of sweet foods and timed how long it would take to eat them. We talked about which took the longest/shortest times and why, using our science skills of how chocolate melts and why. We looked at and discussed which sweet foods are healthy and which are not healthy, ask your children to tell you, they were experts!

Year 2 are currently enjoying weekly music sessions with Mr Olatungi.
So far they’ve concentrated on the timing of beats, challenging themselves with beats and rest and have now moved on to rhythm.
We’ve also practice these skills in our PE theme, dancing like water.
Each team showed outstanding communication and teamwork in creating water-like moves to perform in unison then in cannon.

For the first time this year we have had a cheerleading club. Children have been learning skills such as strengthening, conditioning, teamwork, and musicality. Cheerleading is always so much fun and a great way to motivate the children to move around through dance. As you can see from the photos below we have been practicing a team routine/chants along with learning new skills. The children have worked hard this term and have gained so much more confidence which enables them to be the best they can be.
We have had some wonderful feedback from the lead from Little Movers that I just had to share!
Little Movers has been working alongside Hebburn Lakes reception children since they started in September. The months of September and October were delivered by one of our wonderful class leaders Pip and she instantly loved all the reception children and their fantastic attitudes. From November the class delivery was taken over by myself who is the owner of Little Movers South Tyneside. With 20 years’ experience of working in schools I can honestly say I’ve been blown away with all the reception children this term.
Over the 5 weeks that I have been working with them they have all made excellent progress and their attitude and behaviour is outstanding. Over the last 5 weeks all children have shown the ability to learn new routines individually and as part of a team. This has been achieved very quickly due to their excellent listening and ability to clearly follow instructions. They have proved to be able to work excellently with partners whilst learning this half terms dance routine and very well in larger groups when taking part in games and relay races.
Each week new activities are introduced but always executed brilliantly by the children.
It’s been an absolute pleasure working alongside the staff and children this half term and I can’t wait to what can be achieved in the new year.

It’s been a busy half term in PE, we have covered many topics over the 3 key phases both at school and off site at various locations from Dance, Gymnastics. Linking, Bridges, Symmetry, Asymmetry, Swimming and much more. Feedback from groups of children has been really positive with them saying they enjoy it and are learning new skills. Here is just a snap shot of some of the work that has been going.
