Yesterday Hebburn Lakes had a visit from Reverand Ian who is from St John’s church. He talked to the children about powerful animals and then moved on to talk about parts of our body that are powerful. He then discussed how our tongue is so powerful because of what we say and the impact it can have. The children had lots of ideas about the words we could use. Some of the suggestions were: beautiful, gorgeous, I love you and stay positive.
Today in RE, we explored why people visit Durham Cathedral. In the morning, we learned about who Saint Cuthbert was and why Durham Cathedral is important. Then, we looked at photographs of Durham Cathedral and drew detailed drawings. In the afternoon, we dressed up as monks and went on a pilgrimage around the school.
During RE day we have been looking at the Christian celebration surrounding a childs birth. We learned about what special items are used during a baptism, who attends and their role and where they go to hold a baptism. We then took turns in baptising our own baby and said the words ‘In the name of the Father, Son, and the holy spirit’ as we used the blessed water. We found out that that Christians use water as a symbol of new rebirth as it represents washing away any sins.
Reverand Ian joined us today to talk to us about helping others and that Jesus taught us to help others before we help ourselves. We discussed how even using our words in a positive way can be helpful.
We’ve had lots of Easter fun this week in Nursery.
We have….
- made Easter cards;
- made Easter baskets;
- decorated Easter bunny headbands;
- made some delicious chocolate Easter cakes;
- played Easter games;
- went on an egg hunt;
- had fun ‘egg rolling’.
Have a wonderful Easter break!
We have had a very busy week in Reception. We have been learning about the Easter Story and the build up to Easter. The importance of Easter for Christians and what symbols represent Easter. We have been making chicks, eggs, baskets, chocolate nest, retelling the story of Easter and so much more! Ask us to tell you about Easter and when you are supposed to have Easter eggs!
Wow,wow,wow! Thank you to each an every one of you who entered our ‘decorated’ egg competition. It has been very difficult choosing the winners as the entries were all eggstremely eggstatic! Winners will be revealed in tomorrows’ celebration assembly.
We loved making our decorated eggs for our Easter competition!
Reverend Ian from St Johns Church joined us for our Easter Celebration assembly. We looked at the Easter Story and how sometimes the impossible can happen. Easter is a sign of new life and new hope and that we should rejoice in the lessons Jesus taught us.
Happy Easter!
Year 5 have been extremely lucky to learn some new dance moves!
We took part in an Indian dance work-shop and learnt the steps to a very famous song, “Jai Ho”. We put the steps together in sequence and performed our work-shop dance as a year group.
Everyone was on board learning the moves, and having a lot of fun on the way.
Well done Year 5!
