Last week (7th-13th February), schools, youth groups, organisations and individuals across the UK took part in Children’s Mental Health Week (CMHW). This year’s theme was ‘Growing Together’.
Across the course of the week, we discussed how ‘Growing Together’ is about growing emotionally and finding ways to help each other grow. Challenges and setbacks can help us to grow and adapt. Trying new things can help us to move beyond our comfort zone into a new realm of possibility and potential. However, emotional growth is often a gradual process that happens over time, and sometimes we might feel a bit ‘stuck’.
We dedicated some time each day to focus on our mental health…
We had MINDFUL MONDAY, where we all did something do relax. On TOGETHER TUESDAY, we encouraged the children to think about who they had in their lives to support them when they’re feeling worried or overwhelmed. Exercise is a great way to improve mental health by reducing anxiety, depression and negative mood so the middle of the week saw us take part in a WORK OUT WEDNESDAY. When we’re feeling down, we might forget about how much we’ve already achieved. On THROWBACK THURSDAY the children were encouraged to think about how they’ve grown – physically, academically and emotionally. On FUN FRIDAY, the children came into school in non-uniform and were encouraged to ‘Dress to Express’! We think they all looked brilliant!
